Welcome To
Our Appraisal Section
This is
a very much debated topic for the domain industry, has been &
always will be. Do we consider ourselves experts in this field, "NO",
as if anyone can make claim to that. Your always hearing from other
domain owners saying "What
makes you an expert at appraising domain names".
There is no sure fire way of appraising domain names, you can only
go by general guide lines that most appraisal services use, &
let me tell you, it is very limited.
What we do have, is 7 years experience in buying, selling,
auctioning, & appraising domain names.
Many factors go into appraising domain
names, some are very useful, while others are useless. It can be a
very complex procedure in determining the value of a domain
name. We will get into that later on, but for now, lets just
stick with some general principles that go into determining the
value of a domain name.
(1)
Length of the
name, or letters. Generally the shorter the name, the more valuable
it is. (This is not always the case). Take this example: (5 Letters)
Horse.com, & (8 Letters) Business.com, business.com is
more valuable then Horse.com
(2) TLD,
or extension .com, .net, .org, or .anything. Generally the .com is
more valuable then any other TLD (This is not always the case). Take
this example: (.com) extension.com, or (.org) sex.org
(3) How
common is the word used. Is it a word that people use in there every
day life, or is it used once, or twice a month. The more a name is
used every day, the more valuable it is.
(4) Marketability,
how can the name be used to make money. Are you selling a product or
a service. Would you rather have horseshoes.com, or videos.com,
& which do you think has the greatest marketability.
We all have seen domain names that should have sold for a very high price, only to find out that it was sold for a couple of hundred, & others that should have sold for a couple of hundred, & was sold for thousands. There is no real way of knowing what a name will sell for in this type of market. We have had names that we thought would never sell for any price, only to find that someone wanted them, & paid a descent price for them, & other names that we thought would have people standing in line waiting to make offers on them, & didn't get much interest in them at all. You can never tell what names will sell, & for how much. Most domain owners register there names for the average price of $15.00, in hopes of selling them for a big profit, & any sale over that is a profit to them. They want to sell it of course for the best possible profit margin, but sometimes they are just happy, or desperate enough to sell there name far below what the name is actually worth. Some sellers are looking for a quick profit, & turnover, while others sellers will wait for the right buyer to show up on there doorstep. When it comes to buying, or selling a domain name, its what the buyer is willing to pay, & what the seller is willing
to let the name go for.
Here are some other reasons to be
considered when appraising a domain name that may effect the value
of that domain name.
(A) Brandable=Is
the name easy to brand, if not, it will cost a lot of money in
advertising to brand the name, & would it be worth it.
(B) Trademark=If
the name is trademark, it could be useless.
(C) Hyphens=Does
the name have dashes in it. This brings down the
value of the name.
(D) Easy to
Remember=Is it easy to remember, & is it spelled
correctly, with proper grammar, if not, the
value goes down.
(E) Traffic=Is
the name getting traffic now, & how much. The more
traffic a name is getting, the more
valuable it is.
(F) Links=Are
there other sites linking to your name, If so, this will raise the
value of the name.
(G) Searchable=How
many search results does the name come up
with in the different search engines.
If you come up with a lot of
search results, the more valuable the
name is.
(H) Clear/Conciseness=Does the Domain name have a
clear concise
meaning?
(I) Keywords=Are
the keywords right in the name.
(J) Catchy=Does
is have a nice ring to it, for easy advertising,?
As you can see, there are many factors to
consider when appraising a domain name, & that is why this topic
stirs up a lot of emotion, & debate. There is no way anyone can
appraise a domain name accurately, and anyone who says they can, is
lying. Most appraisal services don't take all of these factors into consideration,
& even if they did, it would still only be a guideline for the
value of a domain name, & there are "NO" guarantee's.
There is a lot to be said about this topic, but we think we have
taken up enough of your valuable time on this subject, & its up
to you if you want to use our appraisal service. We provide this
service to only those people who really want it, & make
"NO" guarantee's as to the value of your domain name. Use
our service if you wish as only a guideline, & nothing more.
